One of the most common questions we get asked is whether to use solar pool heating or a heat pump to heat the pool water.
What do you want to get out of your pool? Do you want to swim year round or extend your swimming season? Solar Pool Heating Relies on the warmth of the sun. On the Gold Coast, it should extend your swimming season to about 8/9 months, or longer if you have a pool cover.
Heat pumps will keep your pool warm all year round, but it's worth noting that they work harder in cold windy weather and we strongly recommend you use a pool cover, especially if your pool is located in a windy area.
Another factor to consider is your setup. We offer a free site visit for anyone considering pool heating. This is to answer any questions you may have, but also so we can check if your roof space has enough sunlight for us to install solar pool heating, or a heat pump for us to see how much shade your pool has during the day and how much wind it can be exposed to. This allows us to make sure you have the right model for the product you want to heat your pool based on your individual requirements.
EVI Air to Water Heat Pump
With solar pool heating, water is pumped out of the pool through a collector or a mat on the roof. The water is heated as it passes through. In hot weather, the roof can easily reach 50 degrees Celsius, so it is the ideal place to heat the pool water. The sun's energy is used to heat the water, so it's free! The only running cost is the pump that brings the water to the roof.
The heat pump absorbs heat from the air and converts it into heat energy that is used to heat the pool water. Our heat pumps are extremely efficient.
